TERROIR

The cuvée CAPRIERS is a single-plot red wine composed of a blend of two red grape varieties planted in the place called Capriers.
The 2019 vintage, hot and dry, allowed a very healthy harvest but with a low yield: 40 hl/ha maximum.
The harvest occured early, in order to keep a nice acidity and complexity in the blend.

The vineyard located at the place called Capriers is situated at an altitude of 430-450 meters, it is oriented North East.
Its soil dates from the ancient ancient Quaternary, 1 million years ago, and rests on the pebbled terraces of the Durance: it is made up of Cretaceous limestone and flint, red clayey silt, sand and fragments of molassic rocks.

By combining clay soils and a cool microclimate, this terroir has a strong potential in warmer periods. We find very old Syrah vines that have been gradually supplemented with other grape varieties.

WINEGROWING & WINEMAKING

The vines are cultivated according to the principles of the Organic Farming. The 2019 vintage is still being converted to obtain the official ECOCERT label.

The grapes are harvested by hand, sorted and then totally destemmed, and placed in vats without crushing. The alcoholic fermentation starts spontaneously during the maceration phase with the grape varieties blended, at the end of which the must is pressed.
The press juice is blended with the free-run juice and the must is aged for 24 months in demi-muids.

Once the maturation is over, the must is racked and filtered by roughing filtration. It is then bottled.

Sulphiting is very light during the whole process (less than 2g/hl).
