Covering a total area of 110 ha, the Cornas site is located on the right bank of the Rhône stream, near Valence. Very open to the South and protected from the North winds by the Massif des Arlettes, the Cornas historic site is located in an amphitheater in which the vineyard benefits from an extremely hot climate which gives rise to wines very different from those of the others Rhône Valley designations.
The vineyard is mainly established on a 600 million years old granite base and the grape varieties are only made of Syrah. The wines are powerful and intense, they reach their peak only after many years of cellar.
- Nose: slightly peaty. Notes of coffee and ripe black fruits
- Palate: tight structure. Tannins are fine but present.
Tasting date: February 2021.
OUR OPINION: 1 or 2 extra years of cellar aging will allow the tannins to round off.
The 2018 vintage has a slightly more animal profile than the 2017.
Other available vintage:
- Nose: rich and generous. Very concentrated black fruit aromas (blackberries and blueberries), notes of white pepper and cinnamon.
- Palate: structured. Tannins of great finesse. Tasty juice with a long finish.
Tasting date: April 2021.
OUR OPINION: Cornas are wines destined to age, this one is no exception to the rule, but it is already very beautiful in its youth, as 2018 is an excellent vintage, which suggests the development of beautiful tertiary aromas over time.
Rich and dense nose that reveals intense aromas of black cherry, roasted coffee beans, blackberry, blueberry and black pepper, with a hint of cinnamon and licorice. On the palate, a beautiful and supple juice with a finely structured frame with well integrated tannins. A silky and elegantly scented Cornas !
