This region, located between the two rivers Garonne and Dordogne, is known as Entre-Deux-Mers and has many vineyards. The vast vineyards are often interspersed with picturesque villages, magnificent castles and historic buildings.
Although Merlot and both Cabernets are grown here, the designation applies only to white wines produced primarily from Semillon, Sauvignon and Muscadelle.
Many of these wines are still vinified by cooperatives and sold in millions by the large trading houses, but there are now totally autonomous winegrowers who produce very high quality wines themselves and in small quantities.
