The Emile GRELIER estate fascinated us by its motivation of its commitment to a clean viticulture. For these are not empty words but actual facts; this vineyard creation is unique and its history deserves all our attention.
Located in Lapouyade in the north of the Gironde, this small vineyard of 8 ha were created from scratch in 2002 by Benoît and Delphine VINET (granddaughter of Emile GRELIER) on a sloping hillside, facing south, and with a more or less clayey silt resulting from erosion and alteration of clay-silty formations dating from the Oligocene period (geological formation of 30 million years ago).
The estate's originality comes from the chosen viticulture method, entirely organic of course, but precursor because turned towards the agroforestry techniques favoring a saving biodiversity.
Between the vines rows, a vegetal and floral cover ensures an active life in the soil and the attraction of pollinating insects. Vines protection is done through insect hotels, bat houses and nesting boxes, hedgehogs huts, snake plates and fruit trees regularly distributed in the vineyard, whose circumference is protected by shrub hedges.
Benoît and Delphine VINET understood, before many others, that their greatest wealth lies in the knowledge of the world they are living in. A knowledge they have acquired after long years of hard work and patience, a knowledge they want to share now with all the people they meet.
In this unique place of life, the first grape harvests took place in 2012 and succeeded each other over the years to give birth first to a unique 100% Merlot organic wine. Since then, other cuvées have been created, with Malbec added to their composition.
No oak barrels for the ageing phase that takes place in concrete tanks and lasts between 12 to 18 months.
The result is a nice surprise: beautiful wines with a unique style and the presence of a paw in those cuvées revealing aromas of roasted coffee beans, violet and licorice. There are wines we like a lot !

- Palate: structured. Tight tannins.

OUR OPINION: a promising vintage, but still young. In its early years, I recommend decanting 1 to 2 hours before drinking, or even opening it the day before. It should reach its peak in 2026-2028.
