As early as the 6th century B.C., the Phoenicians (from the present-day coasts of Syria and Lebanon) and the Phocaeans (Greeks from Asia Minor) introduced the first vines to Provence. In the 17th and 18th centuries, the wines of Provence were highly appreciated by the French Court and gained notoriety under Madame de Sévigné's pen. The vineyards were rebuilt at the beginning of the 20th century, after the phylloxera crisis, and the AOC Côtes de Provence was obtained in 1977 and today covers 84 communes.
The Roman past and the proximity of Italy are clearly reflected in the different grape varieties present: trebbiano or ugni blanc, which is very widespread in Provence, or vermentino or rolle ligurien, which is becoming more and more attractive because of its fresh aromas and its racy structure.
After a 2 hours decanting, the nose offers beautiful aromas of black fruits, spices and grilled coffee. The palate is structured and fruity, it offers a beautiful length with a finish stretching on blackcurrant notes. It's fresh and very nice!
