Château GOMBAUDE-GUILLOT

Château Gombaude Guillot - VignArtea

POMEROL    8 ha    BIODYNAMIC    WINEMAKER: LAVAL TECHER's Family

ESTATE HISTORY

The eight hectares of the Château Gombaude-Guillot vines are located on the flat terroir of Pomerol. Under the watchful care of the church's bell tower, poppies and wild grasses are running through the straight paths of the vineyards: the plots are cultivated according to the organic farming principles, and not just now.

Claire LAVAL and Dominique TECHER, the estate owners since 1983, are growing their vines with the greatest respect for the environment. They were among the first vine growers of Pomerol to have practiced organic farming, out of conviction and militancy, at a time when organic viticulture was rare and little sales-oriented. They obtained the Organic Farming certification in 1997.

TERROIR

The vines are planted on two distinct "terroirs" :

  • Around 7 hectares of vineyards are located on the Pomerol plateau, where the soil consists of a 80 cm thick layer of glacial gravels over a layer of "yellow" ferruginous clay. This exceptional terroir gives birth to the "Château Gombaude-Guillot" cuvée and its second wine, "Cadet de Gombaude", as well as the new "Pom'N'Roll" wine produced by Olivier TECHER, the son.
  • 1 hectare plot is located at the bottom of Pomerol, where the soil is more sandy, and with which the family produces the "Clos Plince" cuvée.

WINEGROWING & WINEMAKING

There is no artifice at Gombaude-Guillot Estate, the philosophy is simple : "a grape of high quality for a great wine", which means harvesting when the grape is ripe and a very strict manual sorting, up to ten persons are needed to do it. A hard labor that pays off, the complexity and richness of the wines are unique.
