Located on the right bank of the Rhône, the Vivarais vineyard makes the transition between the Rhone Valley and the Cévennes. It enjoys a Mediterranean climate with sunshine quality but also a freshness and humidity particularly welcome to slow the maturity of the grapes. This is the reason why the harvest date in Côtes du Vivarais is always later than in Côtes-du-Rhône.
The vineyard rests mainly on the massive limestones of the Secondary (Jurassic era), but some vineyards also cover areas of marly and limestone formations dating from the tertiary.
The production of red wine represents 80% of the total production, the grape variety mainly consisting of Grenache and Syrah, supplemented by a bit of Carignan and Cinsault. The white wines represent only 5% of the total designation's production, they are generally produced from white Grenache, Marsanne and Clairette.
The nose is rich, tasty and concentrated. It reveals notes of black cherry, blueberry, blackberry, chocolate, black pepper and licorice. In the mouth, the juice is dense, the notes of black fruits are wrapping the palate. The woody notes are discreet, barely perceptible and the tannins are of great finesse. Great aromatic persistence. A beautiful wine, dense, complex and extremely promising for a long cellar ageing. Our favorite.
