Caught between the Côte-Rôtie vineyard in the North and the Saint-Joseph vineyard in the South, Condrieu is a designation of barely 130 ha that is characterized by the production of exclusively white wines made from Viognier. The terroir consists of primary metamorphic gneiss rocks whose alteration has given rise to sandy-clay soils where loess, quaternary limestone sediments resulting from wind erosion during the Ice Age, occur in places.
Its vines are planted on steeply slopes (up to 50% of declivity), that required the construction of low walls to hold the soil. Made of dry stones, they let flow the heavy runoff caused by thunderstorms.
The south / southeast orientation of the vineyard exposes it to high temperatures, favorable to obtaining the strong maturity required by the viognier.
The Condrieu wines have a pretty golden yellow color and an intense aromatic, the juice in the mouth is of great finesse and great generosity.
