Initially recognized under the name "Côtes de Ventoux" in 1973, the "Ventoux" designation is one of the most extensive in the Rhone Valley, encompassing nearly 51 villages. The reputation of its wines is ancient, and they have been exported beyond the national territory since the second half of the 19th century. Located on the slopes and foothills of the Mont Ventoux, the vineyard produces mostly red wines, some rosés, and a small quantity of white wines.
It is difficult to identify a common typicity of Ventoux wines, as the vinification methods used to make them will influence the style of the finished product. Some are supple, light and fruity, while others have a very Rhône style, marked by a black color, concentrated aromas and a dense and powerful body. The latter can be aged for several decades, revealing the full richness of a terroir with a quality potential that is still underestimated.
