Vienne, a garrison town founded in 121 AD by the Romans, forms the northern limit of the Côtes du Rhône designation. The vineyard clings to both sides of the narrow valley on steep slopes whose soil is composed of granitic rocks. The terraced layout of the vineyard allows it to benefit fully from the sunshine, while the heat is tempered by the presence of a permanent wind. The simultaneous action of heat and cold gives rise to aromatic, elegant and structured wines.
