Terroir

VINE AGE: 40 years old.

LOCATION: classified Grand Cru lieu-dit Wineck-Schlossberg. This is a high-altitude, steeply sloped terroir, located within the municipalities of Katzenthal and Ammerschwihr, nestled in a small, enclosed, and protected valley.

EXPOSURE: ranging between 280 and 420 meters in altitude, the plots face South-East. This highly sunny exposure is perfectly balanced by the altitude, which provides distinct day-to-night temperature variations.

TERROIR : unlike the sedimentary and limestone soils of Florimont, Wineck-Schlossberg rests entirely on plutonic bedrock: Meyerhof Granite dating back to the PALEOZOIC ERA (-300 million years). The vineyard is planted in this granitic arena composed of highly acidic weathered granite on the surface, poor in nutrients and packed with quartz pebbles. It possesses almost no water retention capacity, forcing the vines to delve deep into the fissures of the compact granite to draw trace elements and a constant coolness.

Riesling wines from this terroir display a mineral, crisp, and saline profile.

Sommelier's Note

"What a lovely Riesling—vibrant, mouth-watering, and mineral! Its near-orange yellow hue heralds a perfect ripening of the grapes. The nose is subtly smoky and mineral, offering delightful aromas of fresh citrus fruits alongside a very delicate touch of honey. This wine bears the true signature of granitic terroirs, finishing with a beautifully saline palate. Beautifully crafted!"
