Terroir

VINE AGE: 40 years old.

LOCATION: field blend of 3 grape varieties in the classified Grand Cru lieu-dit Florimont. Its name translates to "flowering mount" and originates from the Middle Ages, when the hill was covered with flowers in March. This unique site is an advanced outlier hill, spared from the collapse of the Upper Rhine Graben. Its soil offers a rare and rich sedimentary layering.

EXPOSURE: East. Gently sloping, between 225 and 290 meters in altitude.

TERROIR : the outlier hill is structured by two major epochs of the Mesozoic era:

  • the MUSCHELKALK (Middle Triassic) found at the base and in certain layers, composed of crinoidal limestone, which forms hard and magnesian rocks.

  • the BAJOCIAN (Middle Jurassic), a highly pure marine limestone formed in warm and turbulent seas.

  • overlying this is an argilo-silty mantle from the OLIGOCENE and QUATERNARY periods, forming a topsoil of marl and silt rich in gravelly limestone debris and Vosges sandstone residues.

Viticulture & Vinification

HARVEST: manual.

YIELD: N/A.

SORTING: at the winery.

VINIFICATION: the three grape varieties are vinified together. They are pressed in large oak casks where they co-ferment. Alcoholic fermentation occurs using indigenous yeasts. Malolactic fermentation is fully completed. Racking after fermentation into 5th-fill Burgundy oak barrels for ageing.

AGEING: 18 months in 5th-fill Burgundy oak barrels.

BOTTLING: after filtration through diatomaceous earth and pads.

CLOSURE: natural cork

Sommelier's Note

"What an aromatic intensity! This blend is a wonderful discovery, generous and flavourful! It reveals the rose aromas of Gewürztraminer, combined with notes of lychee, apricot, and mirabelle plum from the Pinot Gris, all beautifully wrapped in the smoky and citrus notes typical of Riesling. The palate is fleshy, mouth-watering, and remarkably vibrant despite its residual sugar content, leading into a stunning, slightly saline finish. A must-try!"
