New product
- Nose: intense aromas of candied fruits, currants, rancio and leaven.
- Palate: sweet and generous, with flavors of honey.
Tasting date: October 2019.
OUR OPINION: Sweet and generous in the palate, with flavors of honey, the champagne is surprisingly lively with a beautiful and a long finish. Its vigour gives us the feeling the wine is less sweet that it is actually. Rare and beautiful, this champagne is perfect for celebration of happy events.
The exceptional bottle's weight (2,6 kg) may result in higher shipping costs for the final shopping cart.
The vines rest on Campanian chalk: this chalk is composed of a pile of microscopic unicellular algae skeletons that were sedimented 75 million years ago in warm and shallow sea conditions.
The soils are strongly carbonated and light in texture, and the chalk, which is very pure in this region, has a very important porosity degree which gives it a high water retention capacity. It thus ensures a good soil drainage and provides a regular water supply to the vines during the summer.
Its high calcium content can, however, cause chlorosis of the vine, which is generally resolved by choosing a suitable rootstock.
The cuvée LIBERTINE was born 15 years ago, when the trend for champagnes of lower dosage started, a fashion of which the family Doyard took the opposite way by creating Libertine with a sweetness level of 65 g/l. The challenge was in the balance between high sugar level and a fresh and tasty finish.
This champagne combines sweetness and tonicity, intense fragrances and fineness, elegance and strength.
Made of a blend of four or five vintages, it is aged in cellar for more than twelve years, i.e 15 years for this bottle.
The secret of its intense aromas is in the quality of the sweetening added to obtain the sugar level of 65g/l. The latter is produced by the family Doyard with 20 years old wines preserved in magnum or jeroboam. For this set of bottles, old wines of 1986 vintage were used for the sweetening.
Libertine is in a customed glass bottle that has been designed from a specific mold, and lays in a covered and sealed box with the bottle’s number and year.
