Floral Elegant Thirst-quenching
Very fresh nose, with notes of apricots, mirabelle plums, rose and orange flowers. The palate is elegant and delicately scented, its long finish stretches on a hint of liquorice. A refined and very refreshing orange wine, a success !
(Tasting date : May 2020)
The cuvée La Vie En Rose is a maceration wine from Gewüztraminer (orange wine), meaning that the grapes have macerated with the skins and stems.
TERROIR
The Gewürztraminer vines giving birth to the cuvée La Vie En Rose are planted on a soil of Loess, a yellow, porous, water-permeable and wind-borne silt which deposit took place during the Quaternary phase, two million years ago.
This period was indeed marked by intense climatic variations since it was the last period of glaciation that the earth experienced. The Loess deposits were made under the wind action during the periods of arid climate which separated the different glaciation episodes.
WINEGROWING & WINEMAKING
The grapes are cultivated according to the principles of biodynamics, in order to preserve the quality of the skins and the diversity of yeasts which populate them. .
The berries are harvested very ripe and their sorting is done on site, directly in the vines at the time of picking.
After the harvest, the grapes are fermented with all or part of the stalks in open vats, where they are crushed by hand twice a day. The skins and stalks remain in contact with the juice for 10 days, the alcoholic fermentation starts spontaneously under the effect of indigenous yeasts.
At the end of the 10 days of maceration, when the must has reached the desired color and taste, it is racked to mature on fine lees for 11 months. The wine is not filtered and has not been subject to any sulphits addition throughout the winemaking process. The only sulphits it contains come from the yeasts work.
