The TROUSSEAU MARNE ROUGE is a single plot's trousseau wine where grapes are harvested on the locality of Poussot. This cuvée is called Marne rouge to differentiate it from the other cuvée Trousseau Poussot, when the vintage makes it possible to produce these two wines, because the grapes come from the same plot.
The vines planted in this locality are around thirty years old.
The name of this cuvée refers to the bedrock which constitutes the plot's terroir : the iridescent marls of Keuper. This term translates the variety of the different marly banks colors, going from purple / red to light green and white. The color indicates the oxidation degree of the iron disseminated in the marls : when they are red, the iron is very oxidized. Often covered with scree which prevents it from outcropping, the iridescent marls of Keuper were deposited in the Triassic (-240 to -201 my) in shallow and salty lagoons, isolated by shoals.
Facing south, this plot is ideal for Trousseau, a grape variety that does not like the cold very much and whose berries ripen quickly but late.
The grapes come from 35 years old vines coming from a "sélection massale" process, a clonal selection technique consisting in cutting the mother plant in order to keep all its genes and therefore its qualities.
The vines cultivation is sustainable, the phytosanitary treatments are not systematic, but only used in the event of a cryptogamic attack. Harvested manually, the grapes are totally destemmed. They ferment with the native yeasts. The juice macerates with the skins for about three weeks then the must is pressed and aged in barrels for one year. The wine is then filtered but it is not fined.
