DESCRIPTION

BARRE A MINE is a wine made from a single-parcel located in Tracy-Sur-Loire in a former flint quarry, in the place called Les Champs des Froids, with an excellent south-western exposure. It evokes the titanic work that was carried out in 2009 to clear the land, delimit it and adapt it to vine growing: the 4.5 ha of Sauvignon were planted with a crowbar, and not with a pickaxe as is usually done...

TERROIR

The place known as Les Champs des Froids is made up of a soil of silcretes dating from the Priabonian (-37 to -33 million years old), a stage of the middle Eocene. At that time, the region was completely emerged, the sea having finally retreated, but the climate had become tropical, which favoured the armouring of the soil: the rocks were altered by the effect of heavy rainfall, which dissolved the silica they contained, causing it to precipitate in the lowest levels and form silcretes, while concentrating the iron on the surface, which formed a real armour.

WINEGROWING & WINEMAKING

br/The vines are cultivated according to the Organic Agriculture principles , for which Ecocert certification is in progress. The yields are 35 to 40 hl/ha. The grapes are picked by hand in boxes of 10 to 12 kg in order to preserve the berries integrity.

Once in the winery, the grapes are pressed and the juice is put into tunes and half tunes for the winemaking phase. The must is yeasted with neutral active dry yeasts and the alcoholic fermentation is spontaneous and takes place at around 18-20°C. Once the alcoholic fermentation is complete, the must is racked and then aged in the same containers on its fine lees for 14 to 16 months where the malolactic fermentation is completed.
