DESCRIPTION

PANORAMA ROUGE is the new name of the former cuvée MALACARE. Sylvain MOREY has renamed it PANORAMA ROUGE for the sake of clarity, since Malacare is the name of a parcel of vines, but this wine is not a parcel-based cuvée.
The parcels and grape varieties making up PANORAMA ROUGE therefore remain identical.

WINEGROWING & WINEMAKING

The vines are cultivated according to the principles of the Organic Farming. Each grape variety and each parcel is vinified separately.

The grapes are harvested by hand, sorted and then totally destemmed, and placed in vats without crushing. The alcoholic fermentation starts spontaneously during the maceration phase at the end of which the must is pressed.
The press juice is blended with the free-run juice and the must is aged for 18 months in tuns and concrete vats.

Once the maturation is over, the must is racked and filtered by roughing filtration. It is then bottled.

The sulphits addition is very light during the whole process (less than 3g per hl).

TERROIR

The PANORAMA ROUGE wine is a blend of three red grape varieties from four different plots.
The grape varieties of the Malacare parcel are completed by the carignans of the Rourabeau parcel as well as some old Syrah vines from the Capriers parcel and some old Grenache noirs planted on the Saint-Jean plot.

PANORAMA ROUGE combines three terroirs by blending the four parcels:

  • The Malacare parcel is made up of terraces facing southwest, at an altitude of 310-350 m. Its strong sunshine makes it the earliest place of the estate. The soil is composed of stratified conglomerates, with pebbles embedded in marl and sand dating from the continental Tortonian (between -7 and -5 My).
The soil of the Carignan vines of Rourabeau is the same as Malacare one.
  • The grapes of the old Syrah vines come from the place called Capriers, located at 430-450 m of altitude and oriented North-East. Its soil dates from the ancient Quaternary, 1 million years ago, and rests on the pebbled terraces of the Durance: it is made up of Cretaceous limestone and flint, red clayey silt, sand and fragments of molassic rocks.
  • The Grenache noir grapes come from the Saint-Jean, plot, facing south, at an altitude of about 400 meters.
The soil dates back to the marine Tortonian period (-11 to -7 Ma) and is composed of a layer of blue marl from Cabrières rich in fauna that is usually found in coastal mudflats. This gravelly soil makes it one of the most qualitative terroirs of the domain.
