- Palate: soft and pleasantly scented.
Tasting date: October 2020
OUR OPINION: nice little muscat, fresh and tasty.
The Muscat vines are located on plots adjoining the Geisberg Grand-Cru, and whose sloping slopes face south-southwest and benefit from maximum sunshine.
The plots terroir that make up the MUSCAT RESERVE cuvée is located at an altitude between 270 and 350 meters. The soil dates from the lower Muschelkalk, a Triassic geological period between -230 and -227 million years ago ; it consists of a substrate made of fossiliferous sandstone topped with a layer of yellow dolomitic marls.
This marl-limestone sedimentation is the result of the progressive invasion of the Germanic Sea, called Tethys, at the lower Muschelkalk : at that time, Europe was then at a latitude close to 20 °, in an intertropical zone, and the environment was similar to a coastal mudflat more or less open to the sea.
The vines are cultivated in accordance with the specifications of the organic viticulture. The 2019 vintage corresponds to the second year of conversion to Organic Farming started by the estate.
The harvest is carried out manually, the berries maturity having been checked regularly by tasting the grapes. After harvest, the grapes are destemmed and then pressed slowly, for 8 hours by pneumatic pressing. The must is then settled for 36 hours before being drawn off into concrete tanks.
Fermentations last around 6 weeks and are carried out under temperature control. The must then matures on its fine lees for around 6 months. It is racked in March, filtered and then bottled. The cap is a screw cap.
