The Saint-Joseph designation represents 1,000 hectares of vineyards and stretches along the meanders of the Rhône over some 60 kilometers. For a long time, it remained in the shadow of its prestigious neighbors, Hermitage and Cornas, but this wine-growing region developed its reputation in the 19th century thanks to Victor Hugo, who in his work "Les Miserables" evoked the famous "vin de Mauves", which used to designate the crus.
vineyard spread over extremely steep slopes with granitic and gneissic soils, generally reserved for the Syrah winegrowing, and on the alluvial terraces constituting the foothills and on which are planted Marsanne and Roussanne grape varieties.
- Nose: intense and spicy nose, clean and tasty. Aromas of coffee, black pepper, blackberry and blueberry.
- Palate: silky and sapid, with fine tannins.
Tasting date: April 2021.
OUR OPINION: I really like the wines made from Serine. This variety, ancestor of the Syrah, gives concentrated and rich juices, very complex and tasty. 2018 is an excellent vintage.
- Nose: subtle and fine. Aromas of acacia honey, ripe apricots and pears with light aniseed notes.
- Palate: full and tasty. Slightly aniseed finish.
