Terroir

VINE AGE: 50 years old.

LOCATION: The Aloxe-Corton 1er Cru "Les Petites Lolières" cuvée is one of Domaine Maillard's flagship wines: it originates from the Les Petites Lolières 1er Cru climat, located south-east of the village of Aloxe-Corton, just below the Grand Crus of the Corton hill. Toponymists believe the name "Lolière" derives from "L'Olière," a linguistic distortion linked to the presence of ivy (lierre), which designated a place or wooded area overgrown with ivy. Many of these plots were wooded areas at the time.

EXPOSURE: East. Optimal for a slow ripening of the grapes, protected from the west winds by the Corton hill.

TERROIR : Limestone soils resting on the pearly slab of the UPPER BATHONIAN, rich in small ferruginous oolites dating from the OXFORDIAN. This terroir, situated at the foot of the Corton hill, produces wines of great power and remarkable aging capacity.

Viticulture & Winemaking

BOTTLING: After light filtration.

CLOSURE: Natural cork.

Sommelier's Note

"The renown of this terroir is well-deserved; this Aloxe-Corton 1er Cru 'Les Lolières' displays a masterful balance between the power inherent to its appellation and an absolutely irresistible fruity delicacy! Beneath its brilliant ruby color, it delivers a generous nose where red and black fruits flirt with violet and sweet spices. The palate offers a silky, fresh texture that stretches into a finish of small Morello cherry. A truly magnificent moment!"
